Extr@ – a good TV sitcom for English studying

Being language learners, I think the most important factor is able to keep up the mood and energy enough for the long run. Any ways that help both studying and entertaining are always the best choices. Between “I have to sit down and study now” and “oh, let study and it must be a lot of fun today”, if that were me, the latter one would be far more effective.

By the means of entertainment, of course we can’t miss movies, films and TV shows. Beside music, they are also the best candidates for both studying and entertaining. Therefore, it’s not surprising that whenever questing for English study tips, you can easily bump into thousands of recommendations on those media genres.

To enrich self experience with visual media on English studying, I’ve tried one of wonderful TV sitcoms called Extr@. I’m going to introduce and share a little bit about this TV show with you here.

First of all, let’s make it clear that it’s not always easy to study English by watching TV or movies because it requires a certain level of language. But don’t worry! The good news is that, English in Extr@ is pretty comprehensive. The story was developed from low to high proficiency levels to well suit the educational purpose. Plus, the hilarious storyline would guarantee the high pleasure value which is never wasteful to the audience. This TV sitcom is perfect for English learners at all levels. The English version of this series was done in British accent.

The main characters are Bridget, Annie, Rick and Hector. Hector, an Argentinean with only a very basic understanding of English, comes to stay with his penpal, Bridget at her flat in London. The entire content will be Hector's efforts to get to grips with English while staying with Bridget and her friends. Any slice of the series, you will find both contextual setting and implied meanings which help represent the meaning well to viewers. There are many details to grasp the plot without high need of English skill. Furthermore, in the middle and the end of each episode, there are always repeats of words in written form via emails between each character with their close friends. If the audiences miss any detail or new word, they can review in those scenes.

Totally there are 30 episodes in the series. Right now, you can find most of them on Youtube. However, not all of them are good quality. I found one good channel, so I share videos from that channel here. I’m not the channel owner as well as I don’t know how long the channel or the videos are still there. For now, they’re still in good status. Let’s enjoy!
